Purpose#

Create a non-catalog thread using the selected cylindrical face as its nominal size, consistently for internal and external mating parts.

Where to find it#

Select a cylindrical face, choose Create > Thread, then choose Size from selected face in Standard.

Selection#

• Choose an outside cylindrical face for External or a cylindrical bore wall for Internal. Cones are unsupported in this mode.

Steps#

1. Select the cylindrical face and choose Size from selected face.
2. Confirm Side and enter Pitch in Details. Inspect the read-only diameter and 60° metric-style profile.
3. Set Direction, Starts, Representation, extent, End, and Allowance using the Thread controls, then Apply.

Options#

Nominal diameter

#

Read-only live cylinder diameter. This sets the nominal major diameter on both sides before Allowance; changing the upstream source updates it on replay.

Pitch

#

Sets adjacent-crest spacing. The 60° metric-style profile derives its depth from this pitch; it does not select a catalog size or tolerance class.

Profile

#

Fixed at 60° metric-style. Choose Custom instead for independent major/minor dimensions and angle.

Allowance

#

Positive modeled allowance shrinks external threads or opens internal threads radially. Zero uses the nominal profile without extra clearance. Internal sizing reduces the entire selected bore to the derived minor diameter before cutting; Resize to Standard is hidden.

End

#

New Modeled, External, Full Length face-sized threads default to Chamfer for a gradual entrance. Choose None explicitly to keep an untreated end.

Result#

Adds an associative Thread. Source diameter edits recompute the thread dimensions. The preview wire indicates pitch and extent and follows the derived internal opening; it is not a complete solid preview. Internal sizing reduces the selected bore, even at zero allowance. Apply Modeled to inspect physical grooves. Documents containing this option require MakerSolid support for project format 18. Previously saved Use selected surface features keep their stock-preserving geometry; recreate both mating threads with Size from selected face to use nominal sizing.

Editing#

Edit the upstream cylinder or bore to change diameter. Thread History changes Representation and modeled Allowance; recreate the Thread to change its locked pitch or other definition parameters.
